Mentorship is a family tradition for Alex, who was inspired to get involved after seeing the positive impact a relative made through BBBS. Since becoming a mentor herself, Alex says the experience has been nothing short of eye-opening.

“Being a mentor has opened my eyes to new perspectives and ways of thinking,” she explains. “It’s also allowed me to be a kid again with my little sister!”

From sunny summer swims to sushi hangouts, their match is full of fun, connection, and shared discovery. One standout moment? “When my little sister learned to swim front crawl and was proud of herself for doing a full length of the pool without stopping.” Watching her mentee’s confidence grow in and out of the water has been a highlight.

And mentorship isn’t a one-way street—Alex has even picked up a new skill through their match: “I learned how to crochet from my mentee!” she says proudly.

Whether it’s splashing, stitching, or simply showing up, Alex embodies what it means to be a mentor who listens, learns, and leads with heart.
